US Highway 10 Wetland & Waterway Investigation
A team of wetland scientists from GRAEF completed wetland delineation field work on a new highway alignment corridor in Wood County from Milladore past Marshfield, Wisconsin. Also included in the scope of work was to identify and characterize streams and measure the depth of organic soils. Global Positioning System (GPS) units with sub-meter accuracy were used to locate and map wetland boundaries after their limits were marked with wire flags. Streams were also mapped with GPS.
Construction along the new Hwy 10 corridor began in 2007 for the segment to the east, including a bridge crossing of the Wisconsin River, which the team did the same work for in 2005. Challenges on this project included landowner permissions to enter properties, problem sandy soils, and farmed wetlands.
