Fish Hatchery Dam Rehabilitation

The City of Delafield had a need to rehabilitate the Fish Hatchery Dam, which impounds a lake with a surface area of about 950 acres, and a storage volume of about 3400 acre-feet. The concrete control structure and the earthen embankment that comprised the dam were both about 70 years old and in need of significant repairs.

GRAEF was hired by the City of Delafield to:
• Analyze the structural integrity of both the earthen and concrete components of the dam
• Develop a rehabilitation plan for the concrete control structure, including replacement of tainter gates
• Perform site/civil design of the earthen embankment
• Prepare all construction documents
• Secure all WDNR Permitting/Approvals – Chapter 30, Chapter 31, construction site dewatering permits
• Assist the City during the bidding process

By designing the system with solar power and additional data tracking capabilities, GRAEF was able to save the City the significant costs of utility hook-up and daily monitoring at this remote location.
