UW Madison Interdisciplinary Research Complex
The University of Wisconsin-Madison in partnership with the State of Wisconsin, created the Health Star initiative to address health care research and instructional needs of the campus for the 21st century. The Interdisciplinary Research Complex (IRC) is a component of the initiative and replaces outdated facilities throughout the campus with an integrated facility.
GRAEF to provided site/civil engineering services including the abandonment and relocation of existing utilities beneath the building, new utilities, site grading, paving, and storm water management. Coordination and relocation of the existing utilities was critical to ensure the existing hospital complex maintained uninterrupted service.
The 450,000 square foot, multiple-wing laboratory and office facility is an addition to the north side of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinical Sciences Center. The new facility contains research laboratories for the University of Wisconsin cancer center, molecular medicine center and consolidated imaging and vivarium centers.
The IRC includes a new main entrance to the hospital complex, new parking stalls, and a new truck service dock that minimizes the impact to the existing facility.
