Pabst Brewery Site Redevelopment District

GRAEF performed a Phase I and II environmental assessment of the former Pabst Brewery site where many of the buildings were built before 1900 and require preservation. The scope of services included historical background research and site reconnaissance of buildings interiors and grounds. Based on the results of the Phase I assessment, high priority areas were identified for a Phase II investigation to further assess the site conditions.

The primary objective of the project was to identify environmental concerns. Limited interior lighting, large brewery equipment, unidentified drums and staining, potential asbestos-containing building material, lead paint throughout the 27 buildings, rotted wooden floors, process piping that continued throughout several buildings, and aboveground and underground storage tanks were some of the challenges that the environmental group encountered.
